School of CLPS: Two Shanghai College Innovation Awards won
Sanda University – School of CLPS: Two Shanghai Municipal College Innovation Awards won, and efforts of university-industry partnership recognized
In 2016, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission opened invitations to the ‘Shanghai Universities’ Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program’.
Thirty-one colleges and universities took part in the year-long contest, including Sanda University, one of CLPS’s strategic university partners. Teams of students from Sanda University –School of CLPS entered, to which CLPS assigned four trainers teaching at the school, in order to coach students throughout their projects, from topic selection viability, right through to implementation and final presentation.
We were delighted to have two teams recognized for their efforts, receiving awards of excellence for their projects. These projects were focused on innovation in the mainframe ecosystem. One was based on providing a mobile user interface to monitor and maintain mainframe systems, improving the flexibility of provision of maintenance, and response times, for system administrators. The second project focused on providing improved workflow for COBOL developers by providing improved input methods and function hints, allowing developers to spend less time typing code. These projects were praised by the Shanghai Education Committee for being both innovative and having practical application.
In addition, Sanda University – School of Entrepreneurship recognized the efforts of our trainers in coaching the teams, winning the title of ‘Entrepreneurial Adviser’. We’re very proud of their enthusiasm and efforts to contribute to this, and that these efforts are acknowledged.
More broadly, these prizes are recognition of the results that can be gained by integrating enterprise experience and expertise in a university environment. The students brought drive and enthusiasm, a willingness to try new things and discover new approaches in a supportive learning environment, while being guided by those with industry experience helping the students stick to a business-focused goal with goal-focused delivery targets.
